How The Death Doula Oracle Helps Me Celebrate The Summer Solstice

Happy Summer Solstice!
In Bulgaria, we celebrate Midsummer—known as Enyovden—on the 24th of June.
This day can be traced to Pagan roots—originating from Thracian and Slavic traditions tied to the summer solstice, Enyovden marks a peak in the sun's power. Nature's elements—sun, water, plants—are believed to be at their most potent. The sun reaches its highest power on this day, a mystical turning point—it begins to "age" and slowly lose strength. Legend says that if you greet the rising sun on Enyovden, you'll enjoy good health all year, and that spring water gathered in silence on this day holds a special potency. Anyone who washes their eyes with it—or rolls through it—will find themselves graced with vitality and protection.
At dawn, maidens dressed in white walk barefoot through the meadows, gathering herbs believed to be at their most powerful before the sun fully rises. They touch the morning dew with their skin, soaking in the Earth's quiet magic. The wreaths they make from herbs and flowers aren't just decorative—they act as protective amulets for people, homes, and animals. Passing through them is seen as a symbolic rebirth.
Enyovden signifies a moment of cosmic balance: though the sun is at its peak, it also starts to "die." This makes the day spiritually charged—ideal for divination, spellwork, and dream magic. At sunrise, people observe their shadows—if it is whole and clear, it means health; if broken or faint, illness may be near. Some place wildflowers under their pillows to dream of their future beloved. Others weave charms or perform quiet rites for protection, fertility, or insight.
I personally always like to work with cards on this day, as it feels much more potent than any ordinary day. The deck I chose to work with this year was the Death Doula oracle—a deck that holds that balance for me—light and dark energy—shining light on the shadowy aspects of myself and bringing them into balance within my psyche. The guidebook entries give suggestions for rituals and spells you can do, which is always a plus when you want to connect with your deck more deeply and magically. It also offers guidance on creating your own ritual and altar, exploring different crystals for healing, protection, and grounding, as well as concise information on the astrological chart if you've ever felt drawn to explore that.
May this Summer Solstice bring you clarity, health, and a renewed sense of wonder!
Warmly, Mira
